Overview¶
The Delphix Select Connector for MSSQL Server is developed to virtualize MSSQL Server data sources.
The Delphix Select Connector for MSSQL Server addresses the following use cases :
1) Ingest MSSQL Server source databases which are backed up by software not currently supported out of the box by Delphix.
2) Avoid any Delphix interaction with source servers and databases, to create dSource.
Tested Backup mechanisms :
1) Dell EMC Avamar: Backup client/libraries need to be installed in Staging host.
2) N2WS: Cloud Backup solution.
Advantages¶
This Select Connector provides the following advantages:
1) Handle mix of backup tools backing up same dSource.
2) No need to touch production source servers or databases.
3) No dependency on backup software used by source database.
4) No SQL Authentication required.
Architecture Diagram¶
Delphix will present the storage to the Staging Server as iSCSI volumes that will be used to host a MSSQL Server DB datafiles and logs but the restore process has to be manually initiated(Outside of Delphix).

Staging and Target Host Prerequisites¶
The following table shows how different SQL Server instance types should be added from the Add Environment screen:

|
Delphix Select Connector for MSSQL Server needs the following prerequisites:
1) SQL Server manual discovery plugin downloaded.
2) Staging Host with same MSSQL version as the source databases.
3) Target Host with same or higher MSSQL version as the source database.
4) OS user on staging and Target Host must be a member of the local administrator's group or be a domain user authorized on the machine, for mounting iSCSI LUNs presented by the Delphix Engine to the staging and target hosts.
5) OS user on staging and Target Host must have the ‘Log on as batch’ permission for remote PowerShell execution.
6) OS user on staging and Target Host must be sysadmin on SqlServer Instance.
7) Delphix Connector running on staging and target servers.

These ports apply only for Staging host and Target host.
